Edison Lecture Series 2019

Friday, February 1, 2019, 5:30 PM

The 2019 Edison Lecture Series will take place on Friday, February 1 at The University of Texas at Austin's new Engineering Education and Research building. The Edison Lecture Series engages middle and high school students with the fun side of electrical and computer engineering. Edison attendees learn the fundamentals of an engineering topic through a university-style lecture, then see these concepts come to life through hands-on demos. Be part of the excitement! The 2019 lecture topic is Man-Machine Symbiosis. For decades, we've seen computers as objects we sit in front of to accomplish specific tasks. Increasingly, however, computers and computing devices have worked themselves into our lives in such subtle ways that we don't even notice their existence. Man-Machine Symbiosis represents the next evolution: instead of the computer being a tool a human uses, the human and machine are a cooperative pair, learning from and leaning on each other in intuitive and natural ways. This year's Edison lecture will showcase the major revolutions going on in this area, from natural robotic assistants to predictive software interfaces. AGENDALecture Session A: 10 AM - 11 AMLecture Session B: 11 AM - 12 PMLecture Session C: 12 PM - 1 PM All of the lectures are the same. Register to attend whichever is most convenient for your group, then be sure to browse the demos in our exhibit hall, which will be open from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM!  The Edison Lecture Series is brought to you by The University of Texas at Austin Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Edison has reached over 29,000 Central Texas students since its inception in 2005.
