Featuring Josphen Alessi

Sunday, March 3, 2019, 11:00 PM

Round Rock Symphony will welcome Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic, to the stage for its March 3rd concert. The program will include works by Carl Nielsen, Launy Grøndahl and Nino Rota. As part of the symphony’s ongoing commitment to music education, student musicians from the Vivace Youth Orchestra will perform side-by-side with the symphony at this concert that is co-produced with the Georgetown Symphony Society.

Carl Nielsen - Aladdin Suite
Launy Grøndahl - Trombone Concerto, Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone, New York Philharmonic
Nino Rota - Suite from The Godfather (side-by-side with the students of the Vivace Youth Orchestra)
Nino Rota - Trombone Concerto, Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone, New York Philharmonic

This concert takes place directly after a series of cover conductor appearances at the New York Philharmonic by Round Rock Symphony’s Musical Director Stefan Sanders. Sanders, an accomplished trombonist himself, relates with enthusiasm, “We are especially excited to feature legendary trombonist, Joseph Alessi, the Principal Trombonist of the New York Philharmonic in March. Mr. Alessi is regarded the world over as the preeminent trombone soloist and pedagogue.”

Before the 3pm performance, we are welcoming visitors with live music in the lobby of the concert hall, first with Vivace Youth Orchestra (2-2:30pm), followed by the Walsh Trombone Choir, featuring students from Walsh Middle School (Round Rock ISD).
