Navigating the Maze: Consent, Confidentiality, and Access to Health Care for Texas Youth
Navigating the Maze: Consent, Confidentiality, and Access to Health Care for Texas Youth Jennifer Biundo from Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy Join HYP for our May workshop! In Texas, a 17 year old mother may consent to all medical care for her baby, but often cannot provide consent for her own birth control. Texas laws around the rights of a minor to consent to health care are among the most complex in the nation. This interactive session will help participants navigate the maze of both federal and state minor consent and confidentiality statute, enabling them to confidently serve or refer youth to appropriate care. Special focus will be placed on access to reproductive health care. The session also will provide an overview of the many health care funding programs that exist in Texas, enabling youth-facing professionals to provide the most effective referrals. Finally, attendees will explore their own personal value systems around minor health care access that may impact their work. Tuesday, May 28| 3 - 4:30pm at Lifeworks East 1.5 CEU available
