Panel Discussion: Texas Women in Animation & Gaming
Join the Texas Film Commission and Governor’s Commission for Women for a discussion with women in the animation and gaming industries on how Texas business leaders are creating accessibility in the industry and changing the landscape for the better. Learn how representation is key to the evolution of the industry and how Texas is at the forefront of female employment in the video game and animation industries. Panelists: Stephanie Whallon, Texas Film Commission (Moderator) Rachel Citron, Powerhouse Animation Sara Hirsh Bordo, Women Rising Heather Ross, Women in Games International Schedule: 4:00 - 4:30pm - Attendee Check-In 4:30 - 5:30pm - Panel Discussion 6:00 - 7:30pm - Reception hosted by Women in Animation (WIA) at The Jackalope (404 East 6th St.) Please allow time for parking and Capitol security check. About the Panelists: Stephanie Whallon has served as Director of the Texas Film Commission since 2018, and previously served as Incentive Program Manager. Before her time at the Texas Film Commission, she worked in film production for companies located in New York, Los Angeles and all over the world. While in Los Angeles, she worked for several years on both the studio finance side and in production at Warner Bros and for Clint Eastwood’s company, Malpaso Productions. Rachel Citron graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Women & Gender Studies before moving to Texas to pursue a Graduate degree at UT Austin in the same field. In 2009, she joined the staff of Powerhouse Animation. Over the past 10 years she has held several titles at Powerhouse including Producer and Senior Supervising Producer, and is currently in the role of Head of Accounts and New Business. Sara Hirsh Bordo is Founder and CEO of Women Rising, and has held positions including Executive Director of Interactive Marketing at Paramount Pictures, VP of Digital Marketing at MGM Studios, and CEO and Co-Founder of NowLive. She founded Women Rising to empower women and girls through content, experiences, mentorship, and impact. She directed and produced the rally of the Women’s March of Texas which became the largest gathering of women in Texas history, followed by Executive Producing March for Our Lives NYC, and directing all content and streaming for The United State of Women Summit, featuring Former First Lady Michelle Obama. Heather Ross relaunched the Women in Games International - Austin Chapter in 2012 and organized the first chapter conference in 2016. She continues to work in the games, theatre, film, and tech industries. Her proudest moments are when she feels she's made a positive impact on the world.
