Enjoy a virtual Reel Women in Film screening of The Divine Order at your leisure, then join us on July 16 at 7:30pm for a FREE livestream discussion and YouTube chat with the film’s writer and director, Petra Volpe.

Set in 1971, a young housewife organizes the women of her town to petition for the right to vote in Switzerland.

Petra Biondina Volpe wrote and directed this narrative of the Swiss women's suffrage tale. The Divine Order disarms the heavy nature of the subject matter by adding humor as a storytelling device. Additionally, it encapsulates the decade of the 1970s in a well researched and less stylized manner than other period peices, which makes the costume design by Linda Harper stand out.

This ticketed virtual screening is part of Reel Women in Film, a film series that highlights the filmic works of women in front of or behind the camera. In its second season, focus will be on ideas of empowerment seen through the lens of activism. This program is presented in conjunction with our Sister Suffragists exhibition, celebrating the suffrage centennial.

In addition to exclusive virtual access to The Divine Order, we are pleased to present Shelby Hadden's short film, Tightly Wound, as part of this Reel Women in Film program. The short film is available for free viewing at

The livestream discussion is FREE to the public and will be available post-livestream on the Bullock Museum YouTube channel.
